The thermostat is a small device that sits between the engine and the radiator, the thermostat job is to block the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has warmed up i.e the thermostat allows for flow of coolant into the radiator only when necessary. The thermostat reduces engine wear, deposits and emission by letting the engine warm up as quickly as possible. The popular myth as being spread by our roadside mechanics in Nigeria is that the thermostat in cars causes engine overheating and the Nigeria weather is too harsh on car engines. The prevalence of this belief has led to the condemnation of lots of car engine. Removing the thermostat will simply make the engine over cool, which is bad. It will increase fuel consumption, as the engine CTS (coolant temperature sensor) will assume the engine’s not up to normal operating temperature, and simply inject more fuel in. This will cause premature engine wear, as the excess fuel will wash the oil from the cylinder bores (bore wash).

We should always remember this cars have been made to pass through quality control test by standard and recognized parastatals, assuming that the inclusion of thermostat in car engines is a mistake is tantamount to disobeying the manual as given by the manufacturer!!!
