Car tyres come in different sizes, which is influenced by the size and weight of the vehicle it is being used for, tyres have a code system molded into their sidewall which allows you to understand their technical capabilities. This code provides information on tyre size, construction (e.g. radial), its load-carrying capacity and its speed rating. For example 195/55 R16 87V (check attached picture)

195- Indicates the nominal section width of the tyre in millimeters (195mm).

55- Indicates its aspect ratio, a comparison of the tyres section height with its section width (55 indicates the height is 55% of its width)

R- Indicates ‘radial’ construction of the fabric carcass of the tyre

16- Indicates the nominal diameter of the rim (16 inches)

87- is a symbol indicating the maximum load capacity at which the tyre can be safely operated, subjected to the tyre being in sound condition, correctly fitted, and with recommended inflation pressure (87 represents a maximum load of 545kg per tyre)

V represents speed rating (240km/h in this case) which must match or exceed the maximum speed of your car.

S 180km/h or 112mph
T 190km/h or 118mph
U 200km/h or 125mph
H 210km/h or 130mph
V 240km/h or 149mph
W (ZR) 270km/h or 168mph
Y (ZR) 300km/h or 186mph
ZR Above 240km/h or 149mph

Ensure you always check your tyre guauge with our special LCD Tyre Guauge tool to ensure proper Tyre pressure.
