There are at least three technologies making modern cars ride better than ever: magnetic dampers, in which the viscosity of the fluids changes in a fraction of a second depending on how much damping you need, hydraulic cross-linking, in which conventional anti-roll bars are replaced by units shifting fluid from side to side, and active curve tilting, which is part of what Mercedes calls “Magic Body Control.”

Without the additional cameras, we’re talking about Daimler’s Active Body Control. This system adds hydraulic cylinders on top of the regular struts, which can change the ride height to maximize comfort on bumpy roads. The Active Body Control will also keep the car level during strong acceleration or braking, improving driving performance.

With the cameras, you’re looking at what they call “Magic Body Control.” That can pre-set the car to what’s coming up ahead, including sharp turns. This curve tilting feature keeps the car from understeering.
